DBS Checks (Disclosing and Barring Service)
We have been asked by Bowls England to ensure that all of our working umpires have DBS checks done. Any person working regularly with young children or vulnerable adults in a coaching (teaching) role is recommended to have a DBS Clearance which includes a Criminal Record Bureau (CBR) Check. This check is valid wherever you are involved in umpiring or marking duties, particularly when on international duty, working with junior bowlers or working at national finals.
The EBUA has the option to process checks for our members through the British Crown Green Bowling Association at a nominal fee of £12.00. You will need to pay this fee but once you have your certificate number the EBUA will reimburse this cost the first time.
If you already have a DBS Clearance number and the check was done in relation to 'Sport' then you will not need to have another one done. However you will need to disclose your certificate number and it’s date of issue to Carol Watt Sullivan please. Carol is the association's Safeguarding Officer and is dealing with this matter on our behalf.
So that Carol in not totally overwhelmed with applications we are going to approach this task in 3 stages
1) If you are a working International Umpire or if you wish to apply for Leamington please apply ASAP.
2) If you are a working umpire or marker and you wish to work only within your County please apply after 25th May 2023.
3) If you are a working umpire or marker but are not planning to work much this summer please apply after 1st August 2023.
Let me reiterate. ALL members of the EBUA will be expected to have a current DBS check done by the end of 2023. All new members will be expected to apply for one as soon as they have joined the EBUA. No member of the EBUA will be allowed to work in 2024 without having a current DBS in place.
For a form please email Carol at carolwattsullivan@virginmedia.com. Carol will then send you the form in the post and you will need to return it to her with all the information required and the payment.
